Reflective Essay!!!

Can you believe Engineers actually write not only use coding?:

                                                                          Experience in a Engineering Class

The beginning of Engineering class I honesty taught it was going to be about coding, figures and keynotes. Little did I know this class was to evolve our writing standards. Mr. Bubrow is clear and enough examples given in class to understand a topic. The most adrenaline part of this course was the amount of presentation it had to be done for the audience that I haven’t done in years. This gave me so much confidence and prepared for the real world. Throughout this course I wrote reflection based on projects I completed by revising my mistakes and what I can improve.

The first assignment was the resume and cover letter assignment. It is a paper that reflects our future and background to accomplish a desired job. It was a major change from the perspective of this professor, because he guided us to be successful writers by focusing on the audience and its purpose. The audience had to have this clear understanding and engage with a purpose to show our desire and interest in getting that specific job. For example, I use a professional template and class notes to help me guide my writing and where to place my ideas. To add on, there were three pages of full details. On the second page, called Resume, I was able to express my aspiration for that desired job I wanted to apply for. I notice that a resume is more than a page which I never knew, and in order to gain a great opportunity to get accepted is using KEYWORDS and going over the REQUIREMENTS that need to be written down on the resume. As explained above, A & P is important to use on every writing assignment to be successful and unique.

The second assignment was Lab Report, a whole rollercoaster vibe. The lab report was about the probability of a dice roll. It was one of the most challenging projects because I only had experience of the CCNY Library Database for research based on probability. On the other hand, the use of technology such as Excel was a big headache to understand how to create charts and find the probability that it took me a whole day to understand and complete. Not going to lie, I appreciate Mr. Bubrow encourages us to step out of our comfort zone to learn new skills that will help with future jobs and investments. To add on, the citation (APA style) was new writing skills that upgrade the essay typed and double-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5″ x 11″), with 1″ margins on all sides. Also, I used the A & P for the audience to engage using dice with the purpose of understanding probability in a simpler way.

The third assignment was the Group Project, a fun topic. This was a smooth and fun proposal to complete because all my teammates were involved and each one of us had unique ideas that were all put together to create an extraordinary proposal. To make students feel connected and less stressed, The City College of New York needs a Student Center. Our idea was to create a whole new building. My part of this group project was the conclusion and some of the costs and benefits. First, we used drafting to revise our idea. Then we created Google Slides for the audience to have a visual idea of our proposal. I wrote down facts in the conclusion for the audience to understand the importance of a Student center. The benefits gained throughout this journey were communication skills, knowledge and friendship.

The final assignment was the Technical Description, a project to research a topic related to our major, write about it, and present it. I chose Light Bulb because it is related to my intended major, Electrical Engineering. To plan this presentation, I synthesized many sources to be well informed and give the audience a visual idea based on the light bulb with the purpose of understanding why light bulbs keep changing as a generation evolves for a better society. I decided to present a poster with the use of APA style and visuals to help the audience feel engaged and a clear idea. This made me realize the true passion I have towards my major. I gave it much dedication and preparation. As I have already presented, I felt this time more confident and fluent.

Lastly, this course has changed my mentality from a normal to an ideal writer to fulfill in life. I appreciate Mr. Bubrow for teaching us all his techniques in such a fun way to learn and enjoy ourselves throughout the class. Three important topics I learned are knowing how to research, and present proposals highly efficiently. This course has increased my creativity, knowledge and communication skills.
